Blackberry Rosemary Mezcal Margaritas

blackberry rosemary mezcal margaritas, nedra baldori, lets go cooking, new braunfels texas, craft coctails

I love margaritas!  Nothing quenches a thirst and is more satisfying than an icy cold marg after a hot summer’s day outdoors.  Mezcal is in the Tequila family, but has the added complexity of a delicious smoky flavor that takes the rita to the next level.  You will need a muddler, jigger measure, and cocktail shaker to make this cocktail properly, but you can MacGyver it by using the handle of a wood spoon, a shot glass, and a large jar with a lid.

Serves: 2    Prep time: 5 min

  • 12 – 15 large blackberries

  • 6 long rosemary leaves

  • 2 jiggers Mezcal

  • 1 jigger Cointreau or Grand Marnier

  • Juice of 1 large or 2 small limes

  • Juice of ½ small orange

  • A couple squirts agave nectar

  • Ice

Add the blackberries to the cocktail shaker with the rosemary leaves.  Use the muddler to smash them together and pulp the blackberries.

Add the rest of the ingredients to the shaker, add lots of ice, put on the lid and shake away for about 30 seconds.

Add fresh ice to two margarita glasses and pour the strained cocktail over the ice.  Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig.

Enjoy!!
